Stop Blood-Sucking Mosquitoes

From the Experts at Duncan’s Landscaping

Mosquitoes are blood-sucking insects that can turn your outdoor fun into a nightmare. In Georgia, with our warmer temperatures and high humidity, they are almost inevitable. Mosquitoes are a nuisance, and almost everyone has felt the stinging itch of this parasitic creature. Worldwide, mosquitoes are responsible for more deaths annually than any other living creature, including humans. A mosquito bite can carry infectious diseases such as the West Nile virus, St. Louis virus, Eastern equine encephalitis, and malaria.

Mosquitoes can also jeopardize your dog’s health by transmitting heartworm to your beloved pet. Create a safe environment around your home, and enjoy your backyard today with Duncan’s Green Team. Our highly effective mosquito control plan will have you back to enjoying the outdoors in no time.

Protect Your Family From Mosquito-Borne Illnesses

West Nile Virus (WNV)
The most commonly diagnosed virus spread through the bite of a mosquito is the West Nile virus. Currently, there are no vaccines to prevent and no medications on the market for treatment. While most cases of WNV are mild and go unreported, symptoms can include fever, headache, body aches, skin rash, and swollen lymph nodes. Severe symptoms can include stiff neck, sleepiness, disorientation, coma, tremors, convulsions, and paralysis.

St. Louis Virus
The Saint Louis encephalitis (SLE) virus, like WNV, is spread through the bite of an infected mosquito. While most people infected will have no apparent symptoms, some will suffer from inflammation of the brain. Most cases are in older adults, and initial symptoms include fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, and tiredness. There is no cure, and care is based on symptoms.

Malaria
While contracting malaria from a mosquito is rare, there are still about 2,000 cases in the United States each year. It is a serious and sometimes fatal disease caused by a parasite that infects mosquitoes. People who get malaria often suffer from flu-like illnesses.

Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE)
A third virus transmitted through the bite of a mosquito is the EEE virus. While only a few cases are reported in the United States each year, it can cause inflammation of the brain. Approximately 30 percent of people with EEE die, and many survivors have ongoing neurological problems.
